Photophonic
reflection on food and agriculture issues that I found is food waste. When I
help my mother cook, I found the skin of onion or carrot is not consume by
human and just throw it away. Besides that, the food we cannot finish also will
throw as rubbish. I still remember when I watch a Running Man show which give
me a message that actually there had many rubbish was made human around the
world.
I have no idea about there was many rubbish
was made by human around world until I watched the shows. According to one
survey, Malaysians throw away up to 930 tonnes of unconsumed food per day
(Jeremy, 2013). This is the equivalent of wasting 93,000 kg of rice every day
(Aruna, 2011). The number is also predicted to rise every year, as evidenced by
the fact that it has doubled in the last four years.
This
has become a source of concern for the country because it is not justifiable. This has become a
source of concern for the country because it not only wastes edible food but
also has an impact on the country's economic prosperity. According to a survey,
a family of five spends an average of 210 USD a month on food, with a quarter
of that amount lost during preparation, cooking, and consumption.
Every
month, around 53 dollars are thrown out, totaling 631 dollars. Malaysians
produced 33,000 tonnes of solid garbage per day in 2012, and this number is
expected to exceed 30,000 tonnes by 2020 (Siti Wahidah Abd Ghafar 2017).
According to reports, Malaysians waste roughly RM225.00 each month in rubbish,
totaling RM2,700.00 per year (Hazilah Gumri, 2016). The figure will skyrocket,
especially during the holiday season.
